"Ransom Model" Creative Works

This is a place to post creative work (blog articles, essays, photography, music, porn, source code, whatever) that's available for retroactive crowdfunding / ransom -- meaning, you've already made it, and now you want to release it into the wild in exchange for money. Presently this works best with the newly-created "Bitcoin Ransom Widget" (see sidebar for link), but we're open to other mechanisms if they use the ransom model.

Bitcoin Foundation (or someone similar) should make a Wikipedia "pledge" address, which Wikipedia could receive in full once they agree to accept BTC.

Bitcoin Foundation or some other trusted group should set up a receive address where individuals could send Wikipedia donations. The donations would be held as a pool Once the pool becomes large enough, it will likely get Wikipedia's attention and force them to start accepting Bitcoin if they want to receive the entire pool of donations.
If Wikipedia won't accept bitcoin within a set amount of time, all coins would be returned to the addresses which sent them.
The bitcoin community is very generous, and I have a feeling the pool would become pretty large. I have to imagine this would get Wikipedia's attention.
Is there any way we could make something like this happen?

The Mandela Effect (Part 2 – The Celebrity)

This is a continuation of the Mandela Effect story. For the introduction, click here.
How did you first become aware of the Incident?
I have a lot of fans, and I often hold events that allow me to mingle with them. They have all sorts of interesting careers, and I like to ask them questions about their lives. Maybe it’s my sincerity, or maybe it’s just part of being a celebrity, but when they open up and tell me about their lives, they frequently share things that they might not tell another person.
I was in a deep conversation with one of these fans, and he says “You know, I work for (the Silicon Valley Mogul) and there is just the strangest project that he’s working on. It involves you, interestingly enough.” I mean, obviously I want to know more, so I ask him more questions and he tells me about this weird guy that the NSA is surveilling. They’re tracking his internet habits and it turns out that he repeatedly googles and reads whatever are the most recent news articles on the same five people: Donald Trump, (The Silicon Valley Mogul), Kanye West, Vladimir Putin, and me. So I’m surprised, like “Wow. That’s really weird.” And obviously I’m a little worried too, because I’ve had a lot of stalkers, and it’s a really unsettling experience. So I tell him “Hey, this is really scary, and I’m kind of worried that I may have a stalker that I don’t know about. I’m not asking you to say or do anything that would endanger your job, but if he does anything else that involves me, would you please let me know?”
Anyway, a few weeks passes, and I hear back from him and he says “You know, it’s the weirdest thing. He just granted you limited power of attorney in regards to IP infringement. He thinks that the NSA is trying to infringe upon his IP!” I’m like “WHAT?” It turns out that you’re verbally allowed to grant power of attorney and he did so until the end of 2019, to be extended in the event that I file any lawsuits on his behalf.
What did you do?
Well, I mean, what does one do in a situation like that? I talked to my friends about it. They also thought it was the weirdest thing, and one of them was laughing that we should try to get a message to him. My fan, the guy who works for (The Silicon Valley Mogul), told me that this guy reads Daily Mail a lot. It’s sort of this trashy British tabloid that has a lot of pictures in it. It’s not too expensive to insert a paid article there: in fact a lot of Z-list celebrities and Instagram influencers do it when they’re trying to get their glow-up. So as a joke, one of my friends puts a paid ad in there about me… and the guy answers! But here’s the weird thing, he doesn’t hit the post button. He responds with a thoughtful comment and then deletes it. Like what?
Anyway, once me and my friends find out that we can communicate with this guy through Daily Mail, it becomes a thing for us and we try to find out his opinion about all sorts of different things. When you move through our world it can be hard to get a genuine opinion, and this guy is painfully honest. I mean, why wouldn’t he be? He deletes the posts, so there’s no evidence that they even exist. We’re the only ones who know. Anyway, it eventually becomes this sort of… game. We occasionally post paid articles in Daily Mail and ask him his opinion on things. Sometimes it’s serious stuff, like politics or racial issues. Sometimes it’s totally trivial, like… just the other day, a popular actress was asking his opinion about her ankles. Weird stuff like that. We ask his opinions through Daily Mail and my friend who works for (The Silicon Valley Mogul) relays his typed but deleted message back to us a day later.
Eventually, we hear his comment about the colors. “Monochrome with a little red if you pledge your loyalty to me, blue and pink if you think I’m sexy.” And we do that too, because, hey, it’s fun. A lot of us are into fashion anyway, so this is like, a… a cool little thing to let other people know that you’re in on the secret, that you’re in the know. 21 is a special number for him for some reason - so every month, on the 21st, we dress up in his colors. Some of us even work them into music videos, trailers for coming movies, or the color scheme of our music tours. Even corporations are doing it too now, using these color schemes in their commercials. There are symbols, too. Like the “OK” symbol, or the illuminati sign of the triangle near your eye. Those apparently have some sort of significance to him also, so we try to sneak it into our paparazzi shots or poses. And then one day, I look around, and I’m like… wait a second, this is a cult. I’m in a secret cult. We have weird symbols, and similar clothing, and strange rituals we do on a certain day of the month, and a huge secret shared only by us that the rest of the world doesn’t know about. (Laugh)
What is your interpretation of the Incident?
Well, it’s pretty obvious. Shortly after I realized we were in a secret cult, he posted a link to a book on Amazon. It’s written like a cross between a Spellbook, an unhinged Twitter rant, and some sort of science handbook. Except this isn’t any sort of normal science. This is something called “Game Theory” and “Memetics.” Basically, those are sciences of crowd manipulation, except right now they’re still speculative – people can’t agree whether or not they exist or are just wild fringe ideas. But this guy’s theories are like, two decades ahead of everybody else. Apparently, for the past twenty years he has secretly been doing mad science experiments on how to manipulate groups, and he just proved it by starting a cult in Hollywood without even ever meeting a single one of us in person.
But here’s the crazy thing – there’s no proof of any of this. Like I said, he never hit the post button on any of his comments, so there’s no proof any of them existed. If it wasn’t for the fact that we’re all doing the same things, you wouldn’t know. He’s covered his tracks perfectly. If not for the fact that you came here to interview me about it, I’d never say anything, because who would believe me?
What part of the Incident would you categorize as paranormal or outside the bounds of understanding?
OK, this is really going to come off as narcissistic, and I really don’t mean it to come off this way… (laughs)
Go on.
Well, the impression I initially had of this guy is that he was a stalker who was obsessively into me. Even after I changed my mind about that, it seemed pretty clear that he was attracted to me. I mean… to be entirely honest, I got curious and asked him about it on Daily Mail once, and he flat-out admitted it. But, the weird thing is…
Yes?
After January 1st, 2020, he didn’t read even a single Daily Mail article about me. Not even one.

The U.S. State Department has ordered the closure of China's consulate in Houston to protect property and "private information" of Americans as reports came in last night of documents being burned in the compound's courtyard. "We urge the U.S. to immediately withdraw its erroneous decision. Otherwise China will make legitimate and necessary reactions," China's Foreign Ministry declared, as the U.S. dollar surged against the Chinese yuan, breaking the key 7 level. On Tuesday, the DOJ also accused two Chinese hackers of working for the government to steal terabytes of data, including coronavirus research, from Western companies across 11 nations. Go deeper: China may respond by closing the U.S. consulate in Wuhan.
Tensions hit sentiment
S&P 500 futures pulled back 0.4% overnight following the diplomatic flare-up, which adds to concerns over the deteriorating relationship between the economic superpowers. President Trump already dimmed hopes of a Phase 2 trade deal earlier this month, saying the relationship with China had been too badly damaged by COVID-19. Investors are also questioning whether Congress will reach an agreement on the next coronavirus stimulus bill before lawmakers start their summer recess, while Trump warned the pandemic will probably "get worse before it gets better."
Earnings
Two big names are on the radar today as earnings season kicks into high gear. Following a record number of car deliveries earlier in July, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) may report a fourth straight quarterly profit, which could qualify the high-flying stock for inclusion in the S&P 500. Shares have jumped more than 50% this month alone (adding to the stock's more than 3x increase this year), as investors bet on a sudden jump in demand from passive funds that track the benchmark. Don't forget about Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)! Much of the focus will continue to center around its cloud business amid recent trends towards remote work.
Twitter cracks down on 'QAnon' activity
"We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm," the company said via its Twitter Safety account. "In line with this approach, this week we are taking further action on so-called 'QAnon' activity across the service." A Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) spokesperson said more than 7,000 QAnon-related accounts were banned in recent weeks, while the platform limited the distribution of 150,000 others. According to Wikipedia, QAnon is a "far-right conspiracy theory detailing a supposed secret plot by an alleged 'deep state' against U.S. President Donald Trump and his supporters." Last year, the FBI designated QAnon as a potential domestic terror threat.
Abandoning hopes
While U.K. and EU negotiators began the latest round of Brexit negotiations on Monday, the two sides remain deadlocked over fishing rights, level playing field guarantees, governance of the deal and the role of the European Court of Justice. With just days to go until Boris Johnson's deadline for an outline agreement, senior sources told The Telegraph that there is now an assumption that "there won't be a deal." What would happen in that case? The U.K. would leave the bloc on December 31 by following default WTO rules and specific agreements for certain goods. The British government has also abandoned hopes of clinching a U.S. free trade deal ahead of the presidential election in November, with the novel coronavirus outbreak blamed for slow progress.
Record retail trading volumes
Earnings yesterday from some of the biggest publicly traded brokers have highlighted the major jump into retail trading. TD Ameritrade (NASDAQ:AMTD), which is set to be acquired by Charles Schwab (NYSE:SCHW), added a record 661K new funded retail accounts in Q2, surpassing the 608K new accounts during the first quarter. A record 3.4M daily average revenue trades were also noted, more than four times last year's levels and 62% more than the prior quarter. Interactive Brokers (NASDAQ:IBKR), which additionally beat on the top and bottom lines, said its daily average revenue trades increased 111% since the same quarter last year, while customer accounts grew to 867K.
737 MAX may not return until next year
The latest timeline anticipates the FAA won't finish work to lift its March 2019 grounding order until late October or early November because the agency has decided to ask for public comments before finalizing software and hardware changes, WSJ reports. Completing pilot training and maintenance checks is expected to stretch well into December, and only then will the MAX be ready to return to commercial service. That means the jets are expected to be grounded at least as long under current Boeing (NYSE:BA) CEO David Calhoun as under his predecessor, Dennis Muilenburg, who was ousted at the end of 2019 after repeated delays in getting the plane back in the air. BA -1.3% premarket.
Self-driving partnerships
Ending work on autonomous commercial vehicles it began with startup Aurora in 2019, Fiat Chrysler (NYSE:FCAU) has selected Waymo as its exclusive, strategic technology partner for "Level 4" fully self-driving technology across its full product portfolio. The collaboration will start with the Ram ProMaster full-size van, though it's likely to expand given Fiat's expected merger with PSA Group into a company called Stellantis. It's been quite a run for the Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) unit. Waymo, considered the leader in autonomous vehicle development, inked another partnership in June with Volvo Cars (OTCPK:GELYY) to develop self-driving electric vehicles designed for ride-hailing.

The end of CAPITALISM - MUST READ ALL|MUST SHARE FAR AND WIDE. BE PATIENT

Hello everyone! This is my New World Model.
The model is sharing and understanding.
Bit of background:-
Throughout my life I have suffered with Mental Health problems, depression, suicidal thoughts and anxiety. I have battled out of that now and I am extremely passionate to share my story of discovery in order to help everyone else that is suffering around the world.
During this mad COVID-19 lockdown a lot of people are slipping into a very dark place. A place of poverty and desperation. And it is out of the people's control. I have had an idea to regain control.
These thoughts and ideas started coming into my head about why we are suffering and I felt I HAD to write them down. Just to clarify I have been progressively getting these thoughts as my mental health declined. Am I losing it? Or is that just poor attitude and wrongly implemented judgement that came to that conclusion?
It is a long read but please finish it and share it as quickly as possible. Thank you. Oh yeah and don't judge as these are my RAW thoughts in text form based upon what has been happening throughout history- NOT any finalized set-in-stone idea. I just want to open the discussion up. People will say it can never work. It can if we do it properly. We already know our current system is not working so what's the risk?
*DRAFT no. 1*
Indiscriminate resource sharing world-wide.
Helping others is the priority for everyone not making imaginary monetary profit.
People's individual or collective time and energy as currency. An aeroplane needs to get build. We as a species of capable animals allow the team of people to build the aeroplane for us to travel whilst supplying childcare, food and water for free of course. We the people have the ability to solve world wide problems. We just need world wide solutions in order to do so. Abolishment of these false currencies we created which encourages greed exploitation and ignorance to the famine and struggle going on worldwide. This is the first step we MUST take if we want to survive as a species in my opinion. Yes we could colonize the milky way but if we take money with us as an idea ultimately we'll destroy every planet we step foot on through industrialisation and pollution. Until the last planet wipes us out with a fancy new mars virus😂👀
Give people comfort and they will thrive. Give them money and they turn bad. Their priorities and intentions get reversed and the compassion of mankind dies as people are scared to let go of their imaginary money. The priority for everyone becomes greed. Hoarding money as a reserve so that only YOU can live comfortably. At the expense of every starving person world wide.
When a man has no food, water or shelter worries he can properly focus on what actually matters. Helping others by sharing resources with neighbour's in need or giving up your time here to build a hut for someone who is homeless and without a hut. Not because you will gain physical items as a reward but because you will get a spiritual reward. Happiness, empathy, compassion and gratitude. The real rewards in this life not some backwards idea about an imaginary piece of paper that everyone is chasing yet no one is happy to be doing so.
We didn't get so far by inventing monetary incentives for people. The incentives were already there. Love thy neighbour. That's the model that worked. The only sustainable one.
"Give us the teachings of his majesty, for we don't want no devil philosophy" - Bob Marley. in the form of offerings. What you had to offer to your neighbour and vice versa. And that's the model we need to return to -to progress positively. I think this is what most religions are about. The kind people who wrote religious texts soon realised that people will be born that will stray from the ideas of religious books and this brought much death and destruction to the innocent people. To protect the innocent - religion alone would not be enough so they decided that the only way to righteousness for the heathen was to leave this world and come back as another being in order to learn the proper way to live from the teachings of his kind father in order to lead a proper life as it was intended.
I think this may be where human sacrifice came from. The people who did not choose to follow the truth in the forms of religious text were sacrificed to the 'gods' or creators of life as the ancient societies battled to contain the human-caused destruction of the land and animals.
However in doing so we became the greedy murderous people we strived to avoid for centuries.
This is not the correct model we should have been living by. That is the model of tyranny. Forcing people to believe the light exists instead of showing them the light. Light=kindness
Forgiveness and resource sharing is the only sustainable model I can think of.
Your dog loves you because you give him what he needs to be able to live as a dog. Jesus tried to give the people what they need to thrive as men and was crucified for it.
Jesus was not reincarnated. But another man with the same ideas was born from this earth. With the same message of unity. Did Jesus come back from the dead or just the idea behind Jesus's teachings? Maybe they had a similar appearance. Maybe they even had the same name.
But they were not the same "person" as they were born of different mothers.
The idea of unity was the thing that was really resurrected, not a man.
If the true nature of this earth is such that good men are born and so are bad men then we need acknowledge it and accept it and try to show people the reasons behind WHY they should behave a certain way. Never should be for personal gain.
If there were two men born into the world and two plates of food. What right does one man have to the food? He has every right to it. But when he chooses to take the food and his companion dies of starvation. Only then will he realise just how dark and lonely the world is without using HIS OWN compassion.
I will not force you to believe and follow what I am saying. But I will leave you to figure it out for yourself. Whether that's tomorrow or in 10,000 years. Whenever we all start owning our mistakes we have been making as a species and not prosecuting for mistakes made but showing people why their wrong and letting them decide for themselves.
Whether Bob Marley died as nature intended or was killed by powerful men in order to prevent a mass awakening of spirituality is another debate.
This is what the bible was made for.
This is Jesus's message
It is only that way because we are afraid of leaving this world. Afraid of death. Death isn't the enemy. Its the reason we all are here in the first place. The whole world political system is based on fear of death. We need to rid of this to prosper as a species.s made but showing people why their wrong and letting them decide for themselves.
The big question to you is. What are YOU going to do?
World leaders have assassinated people that are a threat to their country's economy and their stash of imaginary money. This has gone on for centuries.
The above model does not pose a threat to the inferior monetary system but replaces it entirely. In return we all get happiness and gratitude. There still may be resource issues. But we will overcome them as a collective righteous world society. The old will starve to death in order for the young to grow and prosper. They should be allowed to Switzerland themselves off this planet to free up resources for their children. This should not be illegal when it is necessary. When one cant survive without stealing the resources from the younger generation. At the moment it is the other way around. The greedy old generation of yesteryear is taking from the young, and it is destroying us all.
It is only that way because we are afraid of leaving this world. Afraid of death. Death isn't the enemy. Its the reason we all are here in the first place. The whole world political system is based on fear of death. We need to rid of this to prosper as a species.
Do not post until humanity is really threatened. Otherwise the people in power will ignore. Ignorance is bliss after all.
Ignorance from spirituality is the opposite of bliss. Fear, anxiety, depression, misused aggression.
We misunderstood religion. Misunderstood religious sacrificial killings of humans and animals. Because of that there has been worldwide spread of spiritual devaluation.
They were sacrificing to protect their own children. They did not want to kill the snake. But the snake was biting the children so was killed by the villagers to protect the young. The snake still has every right to keep it's young safe. That's why he bites the human. The human has the right to keep his young safe, that's why he kills the snake, lion, man. And that is why war is happening. People's inert desire to care for their young means they are willing to die in war for their young to prosper. We shouldn't be at war with ourselves, but with nature.
When the storms come we round up and shield each other. When the hungry lion comes we acknowledge he needs to feed his family and before feeding the lion we must seek to protect human beings first. Animal sacrifice was just animal population control. As the will to live is strong for the Lion he will look to take food off the man. But he will only do that when man stops offering him the food in return for NOTHING. When this happens the lion kills out of starvation and the will to live. You see we are taking food off eachother, taking our resources off one another simply because of our will to live and to allow our young to prosper. In the process we are causing other humans to suffer.
To mitigate this as much as possible we need to suppress the idea of greed and selfishness and only act in kindness to our self and then our young. No one else. Once this is accomplished by all there will be true world peace. Warfare will cease to exist and people will be willing to share time energy and resources for the good of humankind. Not animalkind. We can make a start on animals once we have sorted ourselves out first! But we can't start at animal or we will forget ourselves. Warfare will cease to exist anymore and we will be truly free to prosper. Warfare whether nuclear or biological is used by the richest in order to hoard resources for their future young to prosper.
The common man has no need for war.
Only the wealthy.
We need to use food oil coal electricity gas whatever as currency because that is fundamentally what the citizens need. Not paper from a tree.
This is what will happen everywhere eventually. No matter how long it takes.
So from now on I pledge to do what's right by me, then my family, then my children (if i have any) and then the rest of my human brothers and sisters. Not for anyone else but because this is how i have decided to start living my life. From doing so I will prosper just like Karma said I would. You can prosper too, and so can your children and your children's children. But only when we change can we prosper onwards.
The break from the system we are currently experiencing in the form of Coronavirus COVID-19 is equal to the 40 days and 40 nights story. Jesus breaks away from the societal system and fasts or whatever. Which allows him to reconnect and rediscover what is really important to the human life. I think that's religion basically.hat is dictatorship.
That is the wrong model.
The model was designed and enforced by certain powerful groups out of fear and desperation for the people. They wanted to save the people from themselves. They just didn't see what it would evolve into. How their seemingly wise ancient sacrificial system could change the world for the worse.
Well now we do. We see the war. We see the starvation. We see the destruction caused by the failings of the system and yet here we all are with food stock in our fridge. Pretending to be blissfully ignorant while out there somewhere, someone is suffering because of the very system we are enforcing on the people of earth.
World leaders- its time to wake up and change the system.
Design your policies on the good they can do. Not the fake paper money that can be gained from the policies that you enforce. Oppression has served its purpose. We got the technology and knowledge to help everyone. Lets start doing it now. Because this type of solution is coming eventually. As it is the only sustainable one.
Obviously i don't agree with everything in religion because i think that it was added to by others and over time became the system that enslaved not served.uage in order to communicate this message. His ancestors used pictures on rocks in the form of hieroglyphs. important to the human life. I think thats religion basically.
Jesus wasn't teaching his own teachings but he was trying to get man to recognize the failings in the societal model being followed. He used the human language in order to communicate this message. His ancestors used pictures on rocks in the form of hieroglyphs. important to the human life. I think that's religion basically.
They are not Jesus's teachings but everyone's.
Obviously I don't agree with everything in religion because i think that it was added to by others and over time became the system that enslaved not served.
Just like western capitalism.
The ancient humans made the same mistake and bludgeoned eachother to death with sticks for food thinking every man would do the same.
This is what we must teach our children.
Dont be the ancient murderer. Dont let the system abolish your true values.
Dont be the ancient homonid murderer's and slave masters.
Dont be the adolf Hitlers.
Dont be the Winston churchills.
But be the marley, be the ghandi, preach your message of peace and kindness.
Because if you dont us humans will go extinct due to our own greed and the next species to evolve on this planet over the next million years will take our place. We could well be molten lava at the centre of the earth by this point. The replacement beings that have evolved for millions of years at the top of the food chain wont mind. They wont miss us.
They wont mourn us.
They wont care about us.
But they will learn from us to become the men that we should have been.
We have had chances to change already.
Maybe the virus is here to humble us enough to do so. Maybe not. Whether man created it or nature, it will humble us one by one.
The purpose of life is to pass information onto others, and we have been passing down the wrong information if we want our species to survive.
If your dog bites we teach him there is no need to bite for he has everything he needs to live right here at home. If a human "bites" we judge upon them and lock them in a jail hell as punishment. In order to create a kind compassionate human society worldwide we must stop locking people away and we must work with them to understand their problems and help them overcome. Once the oppression has been majorly negated worldwide for a few generations only then will we thrive as a species of love and peace, without mass famine, without war, without starvation, without drought.
That will be the dogs home we create for ourselves to live in peace.
When we dont have any problems we will look to create them in our own minds. If we compare with others we will feel we dont have enough. We must not compare. Instead we must voice why we require more. If there is sufficient reaources and your reasons are justifiably kind then you can have it. If not then stop asking and start pissing with the cock you got otherwise you are causing suffering world wide by taking more than is required. We must recognize this as an animalistic bodily reaction akin to jealousy. Taking due to jealousy will lead us back down that same path we've been on for all time.
No one person is oppressing another. It's the system of oppression that needs to change.
The only reason we all follow the current system is because someone else is dealing with the bigger issues caused by the system. We need to stop taking this blind-eye attitude to our system
Money should be persecuted for causing us to willingly commit crimes against humanity.
It should be destroyed or used wisely for now by different means such as bitcoin as it is a finite amount and cannot be inflated. Not the current model of greed. Inflating the currency so much that it's worthless to the small man who has pennies and is still heavily taxed by the government and therefore it encourages the small humble family man to seek more and more and more to become a rich person like his celebrity idol, friend, boss etc all the while turning a blind eye to all the suffering they're causing along the way. Be yourself not what your idols are. What I mean by that is drop all opinion that you do not hold to be true and treat people how you would treat yourself. With 100% respect, patience and understanding.
If you cannot see something from someone else's perspective then you are lying to yourself or you are closed minded and are for some reason unable to imagine being the other person and then imagining how they would feel in any given scenario and then going from there with how you choose to treat them - based upon what would help you through a big mess and see what you were doing wrong and what you could do to put it right. This is the level of respect and empathy we should take and give and show our children too.
That may help humanity out of this mess.
Does 'matter' create us or do we create matter.
Do the subatomic particles of our body make us conscious or is it our souls. If its your soul then who created your soul. If you say no one it was biology and nature then who created nature. If you say no one it just exists as a force because something big imploded then how does creation exist in the first place you say no one knows be quiet.
If you say our subatomic particles make us conscious because rocks from space imploded. Imploded from what? Why? Every event must be linked to one creator of all events ever. What is that creator of events that lead to the creation of earth's life including your own birth and even this very thought. You say no one knows be quiet.
If you say aliens from another planet introduced their intelligence genome to monkeys in order to take over the planet as their resources are slim on theirs then who created intelligence. If we became what we refer to as "aliens" and were successfully able to fully colonize mars and then our galaxy and even the whole universe as we multiply exponentially on every planet in the expanding universe we have terra formed will we eventually catch up with the expansion of time? Enabling us to travel back to the beginning of life+time's creation. Thus finding our answer to whatever created this rocky abyss we're a part of and who knows maybe we'll even find out why and whats next to discover.
Time and life are what made us. Time started for whatever reason and created the universe. The universe created life. And we are here trying to discover what created time. Maybe once we do everything will make more sense. Maybe that's black holing it straight into somewhere equally as crazy. The question is does time and life make it through the black hole to the other side of the multiverse where time begins again. If so how many of these are there until we reach the finale, if theres only one universe or we're down to the final multiverse then what? We break the multiverse by simply living in it until we destroy it and it destroys life with it. Well what happens then. Where did all the matter and life disappear to? Heaven forever to exist as pure bliss? I dont know. You could say it doesn't exist anymore and thats it. Ok but somehow there was nothing and we appeared so there must be something. The life force of all creation within us and time is the only thing that may truly exist. And when it gets bored it kicks off and kickstarts the events all over again.
Therefore if aliens visit a planet it will be to include their DNA type and irradicate the existing one. Thus introducing alien dna into the beings to make us conscious beings enjoying new forms of nature every time around. Sometimes with a horsehead sometimes with an Egyptian cat. As a sort of fungus that grows to replace us. Maybe that fungus is what we consider evil to be. Anything that changes us for the "bad" (by our life model) might be for a bigger reason. Maybe we need to find out the root cause of our existence or maybe we just need to shut up and enjoy living. But either way is terrifying for us to comprehend. But it might be undeniable truth that we cant see that is keeping us in this hell and from moving forward on this vibrant earth in the best way.
Nature is the only dictator and we are the ones who choose whether to go by natures rules or not.
The current model is one where currency is printed on paper or plastic until it causes so much destruction it has to be replaced with the same thing repackaged as a better idea aka digital currencies. This will sustain us for a while until it eventually does the same thing. The only way forward for us all to be free from suffering is to allow people to be who they are as long as they cause no harm to other humans and when they feel ready they can venture out of comfort and boredom and bring forth their ideas of contribution and improvement and start putting them into practice.
I think the slow change we're all going through will lead us there. If most of the people on earth suddenly died then people would form a group to help eachother survive. That would grow into another new society. Will they create gold coins and start exploiting people for the gold instead of allowing everyone to live happily and comfortably? Probably yes. Will they end up in the same position we are in now of division and monetary competition which causes the death of the poorest every day? Probably. Or will they decide to keep helping eachother and keep sharing and teach their children to do the same all the way up to world population. What would that sharing world look like. And can we achieve it.
Why haven't we already done this you ask? Surely if it was that obvious and feasible then everyone would be doing this already.
The answer is we were. But as we evolved and grew in population we started to change our behaviour as a species. This was due to the people being forced against their will to work for the masters. Whether that was by slavery or with monetary bribes or both.
Maybe we can undo the damage and return to our roots of kindness to all people?
We need to prohibit money as thats making our lives miserable.
Prohibit the idea of selfishness and exploitation all the way down to allowing your parent to die because theres not enough food left for the developing child nextdoor. Who knows then maybe that child will grow up and discover a way to feed his elders that for some reason the elders and top adults were unable to see.
Thats the way I look at the world. In order to correct the problems that plagued my elders. Thats what we should be using the young generation for. Not schooling them up to be able to earn money for the rich elders who do nothing but hoard it for their young all the while allowing others to suffer because of it. I believe it all started with greed and selfishness and our individual will to live. However we have developed language now. We have the advantage of being able to communicate our intentions and wants/needs to others. Why arent we using that language to negotiate our behaviour towards eachother for the benefit of all. Why are we only using our language for personal gain.
We learn to speak in school then learn to write then we learn how to use it in a negative destructive way and we all do it because we were taught by our elders to basically fight for money until you're comfortable and then forget about the rest of society. All under the guise of 'money is necessary for every one's survival and progression'. It's not necessary at all. It used to be. But we are advanced enough to do away with money and greed now. Why aren't we doing it?
Because the people at the top haven't said so... YET.
A - nothing lyrics refers to we've got nothing without helping one another.
We aint got nothing if we've got money except a bank full of exploitation greed and selfishness.
All country leaders need to agree simultaneously to abolish money and make resources free for everyone simultaneously and freeze the use of all money. Everyone still has to go to work as people need to be fed homed electricity and gas. And we need to keep these services running in the world. Money becomes useless and everyone gets everything they need to live. Eventually they should look to prosper out of comfort and bring forth their societal improvement ideas for implementation.
This means no laws. No drugs are illegal. Nothing is illegal because if it is then there will be people who will use that to exploit others = criminals. Criminals will then hoard things to exploit others as they'll convince themselves that them and their family are more worthy than others. So we only trade with perishable items so that they cannot be hoarded and siphoned from others by the greedy.
Biodegradable money? Or just actually stick to our promise of helping others THEN inventing things to improve the species.
Like wikipedia where anyone can contribute to putting factual information on there.
We need to realise that anyone can contribute to the progression model mentioned above and as long as it's followed properly we'll be on our way to world peace and happiness for all.
As long as we debate what is needed with passion for the human rights of the people we will prosper.
We need to realise our true purpose as a species and that is to protect and serve. Eachother.
We got lost somewhere along the way, but we can correct our problems. But only we can. And only when we stand up and have the guts to do so.
Unless we want to continue on fighting with eachother which is preventing us from leaving the planet to colonize. We will go extinct on this great fireball through natural weather disasters and plagues. Wiping out the human species altogether.
Unless we change our course as a collective species to allow us to get off this planet and populate another to ensure our survival.
When we do that is another question only world leaders can answer.
So i ask you, the leader of your countrymen, are you in?
If so then all the poweful leaders all the world must unite. Starting with the most powerful.
Just like what happened when the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK idea was created.
My ideas can be expanded by richer men who have the means to do so. In order for the growth of our species.
We must allow people to live in order to grow. And to live is to have the possibility to do anything without persecution and condemnation legal or otherwise. That includes killing another man and helping a woman delivering a child. That is our right its up to us to choose not to use the bad parts. Can we all learn not to?
Thats what the 10 commandments are no? We ingored that then and have been suffering ever since. Lets not ignore it this time. Lets end human suffering for all. We can only accomplish this if we all succeed in passing down the morality to our children. This is what i would teach my child and i think everyone would do the same if it meant no human suffering.
My dog doesn't need to hunt another in order to survive. I have given him everything he needs so he can live a happy and peaceful life. If he gets agitated I initiate play time and exercise.
He then comes back down to peace and relaxation. This is sport. We should all be doing sports as a form of exercise not to get a more appealing appearance but to rid ourselves of the [continued...]

Mitch McConnell's Brother-in-Law One of the Masterminds of Trump-Russia

Jim Breyer, Mitch McConnell's brother-in-law, Facilitates Russia’s Takeover of Facebook through Yuri Milner
In 2005 Jim Breyer, a partner at Accel Partners, invested $1 million of his own money into Facebook and gained a seat on the board (1).
In Feb 2009 Jim Breyer visited Russia with a number of other Silicone Valley investors. While there, Yuri Milner, a Russian tech entrepreneur who founded DST with close ties to the Kremlin, hosted a dinner to cap the entire event (2). As one Moscow source put it:
DST has the backing of the big boys at the top in the Kremlin, which is why it will go from strength to strength (5)
Milner found out Breyer liked Impressionist art and took him to Russian’s Hermitage Museum to view Matisse paintings otherwise closed off to the public. Three months later Yuri Milner’s DST invested into Facebook at a bloated value. (2)
Mr Milner dismissed suggestions that at a valuation of $10bn he overpaid for his stake in Facebook, especially given that the social networking site has yet to prove it has turned to profit. (3)
it’s seen as a desperate and rather vulgar deal on the one hand—Milner buying a small stake in Facebook, valuing the entire company at $10 billion—and, on the other, Facebook debasing itself by taking Russian money. Russian money! In fact, it seems rather like a desperate deal for both parties (in the midst of the banking crisis, Facebook has only two other bidders for this round—and none from the top VC tier) (4)
By the end of 2009, DST would own 10% of Facebook. Later revealed by the Paradise Papers, DST’s investments into Facebook were financed by the Russian government through state-owned Gazprom. That’s right, in 2009 Russia owned 10% of Facebook. (6)
Soon after, the two continued to work together on other investments. Breyer introduced Milner to Groupon, and Milner helped Breyer’s Accel invest into Spotify (7). In 2010 an Accel representative joined a gaggle of Silicon Valley investors to Russia and signed a letter promising to invest into the country (8).

Jim Breyer and Rupert Murdoch
Then in Nov 2010 Jim Breyer invested into Artsy.net, run by Rupert Murdoch’s then-wife, Wendi Deng, and Russia oligarch Roman Abramovich’s then-wife, Dasha Zhukova. Jared Kushner’s brother, Josh, also invested in the fledgling company (1).
At the time Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation had a joint venture with the Russian mob-linked oligarch Boris Berezovsky, called LogoVaz News Corporation, that invested in Russian media (4). It was Berezovsky’s protege close to Putin, Roman Abramovich, who tied Berezovsky to the mob.
According to the Mirror Online, Abramovich paid Berezovsky tens, and even hundreds, of millions every year for "krysha", or mafia protection. (5)
In June 2011, Rupert Murdoch ended his foray into social media by selling Myspace to Justin Timberlake (2) and elected Jim Breyer to the board of News Corp (3).

Jim Breyer invests in Wickr with Erik Prince
In 2012 Breyer invested in a encrypted messenger app, Wickr. Other investors include Gilman Louie and Erik Prince. To understand the connection, we need to go back to 1987. Breyer, newly hired to Accel Partners, made his first investment with Louie’s video game company that owned the rights to the Soviet Union’s first video game export, Tetris (1).
Louie went off to become the founding CEO of the CIA-backed In-Q-Tel which invested in Palantir. Palantir’s founder, Peter Thiel, sat on the board of Facebook with Breyer (2)(3). On the board of In-Q-Tel is Buzzy Krongard (7), the man who helped Erik Prince’s Blackwater receive their first CIA contract, who also joined the board of Blackwater in 2007 (6).
Around that same time, 2012-2013, Prince met Vincent Tchenguiz, founder of Cambridge Analytica's parent company, SCL (8), and was introduced to Cyrus Behbehani of Glencore, one of the purchasers of Rosneft stock detailed in the Steele Dossier (9). Cyrus Behbehani sat on the board of RusAl with Christophe Charlier, who is also Chairman of the board at Renaissance Capital (10), an early investor of DST (11).

Jim Breyer and Yuri Milner invest in Prismatic
That same year, 2012, Jim Breyer invested in Prismatic, a news aggregate app, with Yuri Milner.
Prismatic’s technology works by crawling Facebook, Twitter and the web (“anything with a URL”) to find news stories. It then uses machine learning to categorize them by Topic and Publication. Prismatic users follow these Topics and Publications, as well as Individuals and the algorithm then uses these preferences and user-activity signals to present a relevant Newsfeed. (1)
Sounds like the beginning of what could be a propaganda dissemination tool. That goes in-line with Yuri Milner’s vision of Social Media. Milner’s theory:
“Zuckerberg’s Law”: Every 12 to 18 months the amount of information being shared between people on the web doubles... Over time people will bypass more general websites such as Google in favor of sites built atop social networks where they can rely on friends’ opinions to figure out where to get the best fall handbag, how to change a smoke detector, or whether to vacation in Istanbul or Rome. “You will pick your network, and the network will filter everything for you,” Milner explained. (2)
So how does Milner intend to utilize the data gathered through social media? Let’s see what Milner did to Russia’s top social media site, VK:
In January 2014, Durov sold his 12 percent stake to Ivan Tavrin, the CEO of major Russian mobile operator Megafon, whose second-largest shareholder is Alisher Usmanov, one of Russia’s most powerful oligarchs, a man who has long been lobbying to take over VK.
Then, in April 2014, Durov stated he had sold his stake in the company and became a citizen of St Kitts and Nevis back in February after "coming under increasing pressure" from the Russian Federal Security Service to hand over personal details of users who were members of a VK group dedicated to the Euromaidan protest movement in Ukraine. (3)
The Euromaidan protest ousted the Russian-backed president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, whom Paul Manafort had worked to install. (4)

Facebook talks US Elections with Russia
In Oct 2012 Zuckerberg traveled to Moscow and met Dmitry Medvedev where they had a very interesting conversation:
Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Medvedev talked about Facebook’s role in politics, though only jokingly in reference to its importance in the American presidential campaign, according to Mr. Medvedev’s press office. (1)
While there he also visited Victor Vekselberg's Skolkovo, who’s currently under investigation by Mueller for donations to Trump (2).
As Obama’s effort to reboot diplomatic relations [with Russia] sputtered, federal officials began raising alarms about the Skolkovo Foundation’s ties to Putin.
“The foundation may be a means for the Russian government to access our nation’s sensitive or classified research, development facilities and dual-use technologies” (3)
And took time to teach Russian's how to hack Facebook friend data, the same hack used by Cambridge Analytica, Donald Trump’s campaign data firm.
In a 2012 video, Facebook's Simon Cross shows the Moscow crowd how they can "get a ton of other information" on Facebook users and their friends. "We now have an access token, so now let's make the same request again and see what happens," Cross explains (YouTube). "We've got a little bit more data, but now we can start doing really interesting stuff. We can get my friends. We can get some more information about one of my friends. Here's Connor, who you'll meet later. Say 'hello,' Connor. He's waving. And we can also get a ton of other information as well." (4)
Facebook later hired the individual who hacked Facebook and sold the data to Cambridge Analytica (5).
A month after that visit, Putin propaganda mouth-piece Konstantin Rykov, claims he began helping with Trump’s presidential aspirations (6). Days later, Trump registered “Make America Great Again” (7). The following year, Russia's Troll Factory, the Internet Research Agency, was created as was Cambridge Analytica.

Andrei Shleifer and Len Blavatnik
Len Blavatnik, a US-Russian oligarch currently under investigation by Mueller, graduated from Harvard in 1989 and quickly formed Renova-Invest with Viktor Vekselberg, another oligarch under Mueller’s investigation (7)(8). Since then Blavatnik has maintained close ties to the university.
In 1992, after the fall of the Soviet Union, Andrei Shleifer led a consortium of Harvard professors to assist Russia’s vice-president, Antaoly Chubais, with the privatization of Russia’s state-run assets. Scandal broke when it was revealed Shleifer, through Blavatnik’s company and with Blavatnik’s guidance, invested in the very companies he worked to privatize. (6)
Years later, Shleifer continued to fund loans to Blavatnik for Russian ventures through his hedge fund, managed by his wife, Nancy Zimmerman (9), and created the Russian Recovery Fund which bought $230 million of Russian debt from Julian Robertson’s Tiger Management (10), who’s seed fun, Tiger Global, later invested in Milner’s DST.
Len Blavatnik and Viktor Vekselberg are major investors in Rusal (11).
Schleifer is still a professor at Harvard.

Breyer and Harvard
On April 2013, two months after Breyer was elected to the board of Harvard (1), Len Blavatnik, donated $50 million to the school (2) and joined the Board of Dean’s Advisors (3)(4) and Harvard’s Global Advisory Council (6) alongside Breyer. The next month Breyer announced plans to step down from the board of Facebook with an intention of focusing on his latest Harvard appointment (5).
In 2016 Len Blavatnik donated over $7 million to GOP candidates, including $2.5 million to Mitch McConnell himself (7).

Jim Breyer, Blackstone Group, and Saudi Arabia
In 2011 Schwarzman was named to the board of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (2), headed by Kirill Dimitriev.
In June 2016, during Trump’s presidential campaign, Jim Breyer met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin-Salman, or MBS (8). The next month Breyer joined the board of Blackstone Group (1) alongside Stephen Schwarzman and Jacob Rothschild (3). In the past Blackstone Group had loaned Kushner Companies a combined $400 million over multiple projects (7). In the 2018 election cycle, Schwzarman donated $5 million to the pro-McConnell superPAC, Senate Majority PAC (13).
Jacob’s brother, Nat, is business partners with both Oleg Deripaska (4), Rupert Murdoch, and Dick Cheney (5). Nat is also a major investor in Glencore, one of the purchasers of Rosneft stock detailed in the Steele Dossier (6), and RusAl.
In January 2017, Breyer’s business partner at Wickr, Erik Prince, was introduced to Dimitriev by MBS’s emissary, George Nader, and the Crown Prince of the UAE (10).
On October 22, 2018, three weeks after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, when most American investors were spooked away from Saudi Arabia, Jim Breyer showed up at an MBS-hosted Saudi business summit alongside Kirill Dimitriev of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (9). That same day, MBS pledged $20 billion for Blackstone Group's new infrastructure fund (11) to fund Elaine Chao's $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan (12). Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnells wife and Jim Breyer's sister-in-law, is Trump's Secretary of Transportation.

Do you want this or not? # YANGGANG CALL TO ACTION

If YOU want to read the long version of WHY I'm pushing these two, scroll further down to the OG post and do YOUR own research.

Strong language and caps ahead.----------------------------------------------------

I am done waiting for the Gang to trickle in and get on board with this stuff. WE need to put some effort into this and focus on what is working, money and textbanking.
I'm done watching twitter drama and just normal pictures (I love them as much as the next guy, but seriously?) hit 20k+ upvotes, while dedicated calls for action and posts about hitting OUR GOALS crash and burn with <1k upvotes.

If yes: COMPLETE THE STEPS BELOW
If no: ily yanggang <3, but this is not an option. YOU are here for a reason. COMPLETE THE STEPS BELOW

-----------------------------------------TEXTBANKING-----------------------------------------

Here is the total as of 2 hours ago:
94 / 1,000

Yuuuuuuuuuup. That's what OUR goal is at. Leaving money on the table from willing donors, and upvoting twitter drama screenshots. That's how WE lose this fight.

Stop procrastinating and get signed up to bank, canvass, host events, literally anything. Yes, I'm talking to YOU. YOU cannot sit there and watch this happen. YOU NEED TO FUCKING FIGHT IF YOU WANT THIS.

---------------------------FUNDRAISING---------------------------

I have been pushing the Cash App referral system hard. I've been called out for advertising for them or being a marketing shill. I honestly just like the damn app and we are leaving free money on the table.

85,700 SUBS x $10.00 FREE MONEY FROM THE REFERRAL = $857,000 of FREE MONEY FOR THE CAMPAIGN

That's the MATH, baby. Doesn't matter what % of subs we refer.
Why? It's free fucking money, Gang. C'mon, think harder.

I'm asking #yanggang to rally right fucking now.

There it is, Gang. This is me risking throwing my family's security in the public eye for Andrew Yang.

I believe in us, YangGang. We always double down and get shit done when the stakes are high. I know we can fucking rally and make history.

------------------OG Post------------------
Here, I will lay out a detailed plan on how we are going to generate a TON of money for the campaign.
There is a well vetted, popular money sharing app called [Cash App](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cash_App) used by tons of people. My s/o and I use it daily to send our share of groceries, rent, meals, and bills. It's slick to use and free (Also supports bitcoin and cashcards). I genuinely love this app and vastly prefer it to Venmo or Paypal. Just my opinion.

Please note:

Here's the logistics of the free fundraising:

Cash App includes a referral link system where one person can send out a referral link, Yang Gang not currently signed up with the app can use the referral link/code and enter bank info. After completing one successful transaction (minimum $5), each party will get $5 deposited into their Cash App account.

That's a net of $10 free dollars!

I've just tested this with u/TeslaMecca. They can attest how simple and slick this is. This is a huge opportunity for us Gang.
More details on steps:

The sweet potato about this is that we can elect and vet volunteers to set up a sort of 'referral link hub' where trusted yang gang could sign up to collect funds and max out their individual donor limit, and transfer any remaining funds to the next volunteer. We could do a weekly push to keep maximizing referrals.

More on the referral system:

For the lazy:
"Square Cash App Referral Program Details
\You must have the Square Cash App on your mobile device to access the referral program.*
Once you have opened the Square Cash App, just visit the “Invite Friends” link, where you can enter your friend’s phone numbers to send them a referral.
When your referrals download the Square Cash App, connect a debit card, and send $5 or more, you will both earn a $5 bonus credit.
It looks like you can refer as many friends as you like, and there is no limit to the amount of $5 referral bonuses that you can earn.
Referrals must be sent via your phone, as you cannot refer people from your online account."

Please note: if you do not have this app, please don’t download/sign up for it unless you have a referral link. It’s worth $10!

Things I've been up to for YangGang:

------------------------------------------------------------Shameless plug for textbanking:------------------------------------------------------------

I've been textbanking for the past few weeks and I've got to say, it's a pretty great experience. I've had numerous hilarious encounters with fellow Americans while simply volunteering my time and texting. It's really fun. One of my canned introductory texts was met with the following:
Contact: ok boomer
Me: What? lol I'm a millennial? born in 91
Contact: bs, name 3 pokemon
Me: just 3? like from any generation?
The conversation went on to just shooting the spit with a fellow American around my age about pokemon (and a dash of politics). There are countless memorable experiences I've had while volunteering. I'm still currently talking with a contact that started with; "what did the optometrist say to trump after his eye exam?", which after a minute I laughed and understood the punchline. We veered off the political discussion and now we are talking about our favorite comedians and shows we have seen live.
I'm strongly encouraging anyone with free time to get signed up and send a few texts out. It takes about an hour or so to get signed up, but once you get going, it takes a few seconds to get signed in and sending texts and making a difference. My favorite thing BY FAR about this is you can actually see the difference you are making. Sure, you're going to get a few people telling you to fuck off, yell at you to opt them out, or ask tough questions that you're not sure how to answer. BUT, you will have the ability to answer meaningful questions to genuinely curious Americans about this candidate that we are so passionately pushing to the highest office in our land. The banking community is extremely welcoming and helpful. Please consider donating your time and energy to this. It's a great way to contribute, especially when I can't afford to donate.

[Here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Eao47ri3BLlzWarmTOpBndA_zCVVpzlm0oW6gKSCIKo/edit) is the To-Do List for signing up. Let me know if you need help, I'm passionate about this campaign and will take time to walk volunteers through.
TL;DR: Let's secure the fucking bag, YangGang!

Dog Bless,
~Jordan

Vechain in the last 30 Days: Apotheosis, Blockchain X, BMW, University partnership, DApp ecosystem, BitOcean ICO, Carbon banking, Live use cases, Early adopter rewards and more

This post is for those who are new to Cryptocurrency or want to find out more about VeChain. The text "VeChain" has been banned in this subreddit for the last 30 days. For more details about the ban itself, please visit this cryptocurrencymeta post. Changes have been made and official channels of communications have been opened up to prevent this from happening in the future.
All feedback is welcome, and all discussion is encouraged, but please no moon-posting, ridiculous price speculation or baseless FUD. Looking forward to answering any questions you guys have :) VeChain Foundation COO Kevin Feng is holding a Business AMA with Boxmining today, so new information is coming very soon.

TL:DR.

Updates from the last 30 days

It's been a big month for VeChain as they have continued to work and share with the community. Here are the updates from their Official Medium channel and Reddit Rebrand Post

New website - https://www.vechain.org/

It has loads of useful information and a well produced introduction video. I would highly recommend reading through the website to get an idea of the scope of what VeChainThor is trying to accomplish.
"We are controlled by the few, the powerful and the greedy. We should be free. Free to choose, to trade, to create. It is time for a new world, a world founded on safety and security. A world where everything you do creates power, power for all. And you, you will decide the shape of this world. The power to change the future, is in your hands. VeChain." VeChain Introduction Video

What is Blockchain X?

Blockchain X is a global enterprise level public blockchain platform. VeChainThor is referring to their network/protocol as Blockchain X, to differentiate it from Bitcoin (Blockchain 1.0) and Ethereum (Blockchain 2.0 = Blockchain 1.0 + Smart Contracts).

Blockchain X = Blockchain 2.0 + IoT + AI + VET/VeThor = A living digital ecosystem

  • Blockchain = structure - bones, muscle etc (immutable trustworthy network)
  • IoT = senses - touch, vision, taste, smell, sound (collect real world information from RFID/NFC/QR etc.)
  • VET/VeThor = bone marrow/blood - generate blood & circulate (value transfer on the network)
  • AI = brain - information synthesis (automation of network with deep learning)

VeChainThor: the top candidate for enterprise and government level adoption of Blockchain

VeChainThor has an extremely strong development plan geared towards enterprise and government level adoption. If successful in their execution, I see VeChain being the leading cryptoasset comparable to Ethereum in size. The reasons I believe they will succeed are due to their ecosystem development, innovative governance model, robust economic model and strong strategic partnerships. The evidence of their success is snowballing with each new enterprise level partner and client.

DApps & Ecosystem development

The infrastructure layer has adoption in mind at the very core. Governments and enterprises will prioritise safety and security before venturing into blockchain adoption. (Mentioned in the introduction video.) The core DApps, VeVID (Verified identity, KYC/AML), VeVOT (Voting, Governance tool) and VeSCC (Smart Contract Certification, Regulatory compliance) provide the safety and security that governments and enterprises will demand. Blockchain X will have built-in KYC/AML, Governance and Regulation compliance. This sets it apart from other protocols and ICO platforms.

Governance model

The governance model is a balanced mix of decentralisation and centralisation. With problems such as Bitcoin's scaling debate, it appears that a purely decentralised governance structure may be inefficient. VeChain will use a new model of a decentralised system through centralised channels. The final decisions will be made in a decentralised democratic process through VeVOT by stakeholders with voting authority. I believe this model will be more widely adopted as it retains some of the efficient centralised channels that enterprise & government are familiar with, while still giving overall control to the network participants via a democratic voting system.

Economic model

The two-token economic model splits the value in the network into VET and VeThor. VET's primary function is to generate VeThor. VeThor represents the underlying costs of using the VeChainThor blockchain. All smart contract execution and transactions will require payment with VeThor. Through the dynamic rate of VeThor generation, the fiat value of VeThor can be kept relatively stable. For example, if the VeThor price was too high due to an increase in enterprise demand, the VeThor generation rate can be increased, which increases supply, and brings the price back down. The opposite is also true if the VeThor price is too low. The way I see VET is a store of value, a representation of ownership of part of the network and the right to use the network. Whereas VeThor is the perfect medium of exchange and a pure utility token. By using a two-token system, VeThor can have a stable fiat value over a long period of time. A company will be able to calculate how much VeThor will be needed for a consistent fiat value year after year and will be able to budget for this. This is extremely useful for enterprise and government level adoption since it removes the inherent price volatility from a nascent market like crypto.
VeChain also has a Node system, whereby holding VET generates additional rewards. Nodes of different levels will generate up to 200% additional VeThor compared to the base rate. This encourages long term staking in the network and decreases volatility. See the Apotheosis Part II article and X Series Node article for more information. A portion of VET supply will be locked up when nodes activate. Long term VET holders will not sell and downgrade their status. This decreased supply will lead to price increases. Early adopters (Deadline to stake: Before 20th March 2018) will be rewarded in the new X Series Node system. Features include exclusive participation in VeChain ecosystem project whitelists. (Something I'm excited about since I believe there will be a handful of reverse ICOs from traditional enterprise clients)

Technology

VeChain is planning on adding more than 100 additional full-time developers by the end of 2018.
For those interested in the technology of Blockchain X, I would direct you to the Medium AMAs where the VeChain team have provided detailed answers to common questions. Hardware 1, Hardware 2, Software 1 and Software 2 are worth a read.

Strategic partners

The three strategic partners each play a key role in VeChainThor's expansion. PWC has clients which make up 85% of the Fortune 500. DNV-GL is the preferred provider of those Fortune 500 companies for management systems certification services. PWC and DNV-GL will serve to introduce their enterprise clients to VeChain and increase adoption. BitOcean is positioning itself as a Fiat on-ramp for Crypto in Japan through physical ATMs and online exchanges, with approval by Japan's Financial Services Authority. BitOcean also plans to operate in China when regulations are finalised. BitOcean represents a Fiat/VET pairing that may serve to decouple VET/BTC and lead to independence of VET from the whims of BTC price.

Evidence of adoption to date: Existing clients & Investors

VeChain currently has 180 business opportunities in their pipeline for 2018 (compared to 4 use cases in 2016 and 22 in 2017). They have real uses cases and existing clients that range from medium to large enterprises. Revealed clients include Chinese Government Gui'an New Area project, BMW, Groupe Renault, DIG, Kuehne + Nagel, China Unicom, NRCC - State Tobacco, MLILY, Sunshine culture, Hubei Sanxin Cultural Media, Fanghuwang, YIDA future, Madeforgoods and iTaotaoke. Each of these partnerships deserve a detailed post on their own, they are all available on VeChain's Medium page. Taken together, it becomes clear what type of Ecosystem VeChainThor is trying to build.
Jiangsu Printed Electronics and Xiamen Innov Information Technology are technology partners and I suspect will be mass producing the RFID/NFC chips.
Breyer Capital and Fenbushi capital are the two featured investors on VeChain's website. Jim Breyer generally makes some pretty smart investment decisions. His only other crypto investments are Circle and Ethereum.
Bonus news: This week they are presenting with DNV-GL a cold chain supply chain solution at the Global Food Safety Initiative conference 2018. Zoom in and you'll see VeChain Intelligent Control Display System. DNV-GL have also launched their new digital assurance solution, My Story™. Four top Italian wine producers are using My Story™ under supervision of the Italian wine authorities. Twitter and DNVGL link.

China's potential

China is widely known to be anti-cryptocurrency but extremely pro-blockchain. China's "13th Five year plan 2016-2020" focuses on moving up in the value chain by abandoning old heavy industry and building up bases of modern information-intensive infrastructure, with blockchain and Smart Cities being a key technological focus. VeChain has achieved approval from the Government of the People's Republic of China with Gui'an New Area project, multiple mentions on state owned media (CCTV) and deals with state owned enterprises (China Tobacco). China will not fall behind in the international Blockchain race, they will finalise regulations and adopt Blockchain rapidly in the coming years. VeChain appears to be one of the leaders in the field, with their largest office in Shanghai and existing government connections.

Leader in the field

Last but not least, VeChain is leading the field in a number of areas.
  1. Academic research: VeResearch with Michigan State University #1 for supply chain management and another university to be announced
  2. Transparency: quarterly financial reports, regular social media updates, multiple AMAs, response to cryptocurrency ban, directly addressing FUD in official Telegram channels
  3. Corporate responsibility: cryptocurrency disaster recovery plan
  4. Environmental responsibility: Carbon bank initiative with DNV-GL

Skeptics section

In the interests of balanced discussion, I will update this section with skepticism I find in the comments below.
  1. "No whitepaper"
    • VeChain are working on a Whitepaper as part of their Q1 2018 goals. Information normally found in a Whitepaper has been made available through the development plan. I'm actually not too fussed about not having a whitepaper. For me evidence of enterprise adoption is a more useful indicator of how successful VeChainThor could be.
  2. "No official wallet" "No Mainnet"
    • VeChainThor has been operating as a private blockchain since June 2016. Public VeChainThor Blockchain Launch, VeChain Wallet with VeThor Forge Function will be released in Q2 2018 according to the roadmap.
  3. "VeChain are dumping their VET on the open market"
  4. "Can we talk about the fact that the BMW "partnership" is not really a partnership? VEN is allowed to participate into a startup program hosted by BMW. BMW is not a client. http://www.bmwstartupgarage.com/partner " - u/DutchDolt
    • "BMWstartupgarage" has neither been confirmed or denied by BMW or VeChain, it has been spread by a youtuber called "Crypto Gem"
    • Going to the website linked, BMW refers to successful participants as both partners and clients
    • This is still a developing partnership with details under NDA, however the VeChain/BMW link has been confirmed at the VeChain rebranding event and by Sarah VeChain Country Manager
  5. "Vote manipulation" "Shilling" "Brigading" "You're a paid shiller"
    • In the past VeChain Telegram Moderators wilfully participated in brigading, leading to the ban on the word "VeChain" for 30 days in cryptocurrency
    • It is difficult to differentiate manipulated behaviour and organic behaviour on Reddit, the moderators here do an amazing job getting rid of spam and detecting vote manipulation
    • The Official VeChain Foundation has stepped in to help Reddit moderators prevent VeChain vote manipulation
    • Official Telegram Rules: Brigading & Reddit links: We have a new policy regarding Reddit and 'brigading'. No brigading of any kind will be allowed. If you want to post a Reddit link, do so with the "np." prefix added to its URL, for example "np.reddit.com /CryptoCurrency". No spamming for upvotes, as it hurts both of our communities.
    • This is strictly enforced by Telegram moderators and results in a warning then an insta-ban for repeat offenders
    • https://imgur.com/a/sOva9 is being copy-pasted en masse by detractors as evidence of brigading
    • Image shows Boxminig feeling sorry for WTC PR team and a "np" link to a different thread
    • I wish I got paid to shill VeChain, I made this post to share a fundamentally strong crypto with the community _________________________________________________________________________________________

||||| Hitbtc Support Number {+1(855)-937-4225} Customer Service|||||

HitBTC is a bitcoin exchange that offers 0.1% charges on each market trade while letting you trade a collection of advanced types of cash and fiat fiscal principles – including bitcoin, Dogecoi, Litecoin, the Euro, USD, and an astonishing extent of lesser-known cryptographic types of cash.

HitBTC is generally well known for being a robot-obliging exchange. It offers a generous course of action of APIs that make it speaking to trading bot engineers.

Like most various exchanges, HitBTC pledges to be secured and secure appreciation to 2-factor approval, pushed encryption development, and the usage of cold amassing.

Wikipedia claims that HitBTC is arranged in Europe. In any case, the official site records an area in Hong Kong. The exchange pushed in 2013. At first, HitBTC simply let customers trade bitcoin (in this way the name HitBTC). After a short time, in any case, it started allowing customers to trade Litecoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Monero, Dash, and other notable cryptographic types of cash.

One of the phenomenal focal points of HitBTC is that it offers assistance for the FIX show – something you don't see with a huge amount of cryptographic cash exchanges.

Another intriguing part of HitBTC is that it licenses demo trading. Demo trading is incredibly extraordinary in the domain of computerized cash exchanges. Exactly when gotten some data about demo trading, most exchanges basically manage you to make least trades of $1 and treat that as your demo.

HitBTC, regardless, has an evident demo that can familiarize customers with the universe of bitcoin and cryptographic types of cash. Various sellers got their start with HitBTC.

Congressional activity: week of 7/29 to 8/2

Good Sunday, and welcome to this (late) installment of Congressional activity and financial markets. The general idea is that the statements and actions of federal legislators can have an effect on broader markets. I try to provide interesting happenings as well as participants. I don't suggest any specific positions: I'd like those to come from consensus in the discussion.
A few things to keep in mind:
Results from last week:
Shared activity (across both chambers):
None, explicitly. The House has gone on one of its many annual six-week vacations (https://thehill.com/homenews/house/454817-house-leaves-for-six-week-august-recess), which makes this post shorter than usual. But the main thing the House did was pass a budget bill (https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/house-passes-trumps-bipartisan-deal-lift-budget-spending/story?id=64573914) before leaving. The bill does a number of things: it ends sequestration, which was the mandatory cutting of certain discretionary spending if budget deadlines were not met. More importantly, it suspends the debt ceiling for two years (until after the 2020 presidential election), which takes the pressure of another shutdown off the table (remember when that happened?) and punts until the next election. The Senate should pick it up sometime this week---again, it's basically impossible to predict when---which should ease fiscal pressure (except the debt) for the foreseeable future.
House activity:
The House is in recess until early September. Of course, they can call themselves out of recess any time they like. But this is rare.
Senate activity:
The Senate is expected to vote some time on the bipartisan budget bill outlined above.
The Senate is expected to hold a veto-override vote on S J Res 36, S J Res 37, and S J Res 38, which are variants of Congressional prohibitions on arms sales to other countries, particularly Saudi Arabia. The president's veto messages on each outlined the security interest in placating Saudi Arabia (https://www.imperialvalleynews.com/index.php/8-news/18994-s-j-res-36-s-j-res-37-s-j-res-38-veto-messages.html). The interesting thing will be how many Republicans, especially in the Senate, vote to override the veto. For instance, the original vote on S J Res 36 was 53-45, with zero Democrats voting against (https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-joint-resolution/36/all-actions?overview=closed&q=%7B%22roll-call-vote%22%3A%22all%22%7D). Lindsay Graham was one of the Republicans to vote for the resolution, which is unexpected.
The reason this matters is it will serve as a thermometer for further action against the president in ... other areas ... in the Senate. Impeachment, as you all know, is a two-step process. The House can bring articles of impeachment all on its own with a majority. In the past, bringing these articles has exerted a ton of political pressure, especially on presidents (which is why Nixon resigned). But in the present, those articles would go to the Senate, who would then have to actually try the articles in a sort of trial, with the Chief Justice presiding. The Senate is controlled by Republicans, and Mitch McConnell has said repeatedly that impeachment articles would be dead-on-arrival (https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/445512-senate-gop-pledges-to-quickly-quash-any-trump-impeachment-charges). For impeachment to be successful in the Senate, it would require a <2/3> majority, or a lot of Republicans voting against the president. Overriding any of S J Res 36, 37, or 38 would also require a 2/3 majority, and the similar yardsticks are why people will be paying some attention.
The Senate will hold full committee hearings on 7/30 on regulatory frameworks for blockchain technologies (https://www.banking.senate.gov/hearings/examining-regulatory-frameworks-for-digital-currencies-and-blockchain). In theory, if you had cryptocurrency holdings, this might affect those holdings directly. But Senators are simple-minded folk, and they for sure don't understand the implications of cryptocurrency. Instead, I'm guessing that most of them will rail on Facebook and corporations, and you'll hear the names Bitcoin and Libra way more than anything else.
The Senate will hold full committee hearings on 7/30 on the USMCA (https://www.finance.senate.gov/hearings/the-united-states-mexico-canada-agreement). The witness list is all over: dairy farmers, jewelry makers, automotive trade reps. My guess is that completing the deal would be good.
The Senate will hold full committee hearings on 7/31 on positive train control (https://www.commerce.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/hearings?ID=4D197EB1-ADA7-402A-8F12-A87FF4B1682F https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_train_control). Look: not much is going on in Congress this week. But positive train control includes a bunch of regulations on trains taking turns and crew sleep and a bunch of other safety stuff (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_train_control). The sole interesting thing is that PTC is expected to cost between $6-$20 billion, with most of the cost borne by train operators. If the (Republican, anti-regulatory) Senate guides toward easing the regulatory burden, it could lift a crosswind on the industry.

I'm donating 25 Bitcoin to good causes - UPDATE

Goal

At the start of December I pledged to donate 25 Bitcoin, 1 each day leading up to Christmas, to a cause suggested by Bitcoin. This was done publically in the hope to inspire others to donate too, especially people who have benefited from the rise in price recently.

It took a long time to read every comment, private message and to check everyones suggestions. Unfortunately not many suggested charities accept Bitcoin. I am posting this update so people can make suggestions for the last few donations and see a list of causes donated to so far.

I am hoping that this post and donations will still encourage others in the community to give Bitcoin to good causes.

Get involved

Submit a suggestion in the comments of a cause you would like to see donated to. Also post a link to their Bitcoin donation page (not address) if possible. Even if your suggestion is not donated to by me hopefully it may be seen by others here who may choose to donate.

I'll ignore any scams, begging, college fund requests etc. I don't donate to individuals so please don't post or PM.
If you wish to give but don't have the time to check these posts for suggestions you can send Bitcoin to my address:
34WbSyrtibUJiFbRa7ukLC8RGdFMnQRn4b
I will divide the extra Bitcoin sent to that address by 25 and donate it to each of the chosen causes once all my 25 Bitcoin have been donated.
Thanks to the people who have donated to my address so far.

Hi from Jimmy Wales of... Wikitribune

Hey bitcoin community!
Some of you may have noticed that I used bitcoin as an example of a community that might want to fund an independent journalist (or two) to work in your service researching, investigating, and writing stories about bitcoin.
I remember your incredible generosity to Wikipedia when we were thinking about accepting donations via bitcoin.
At my new project Wikitribune I am going with a no-paywall "monthly supporter" model but I wanted to also reach out directly to you so you'll know that I'm particularly thinking of this community as a great example of how lots of things are underserved by traditional media models.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39695767 if you want to read about it at the BBC.
Or http://www.wikitribune.com/
The main thing I wanted to say today is that I set up a bitcoin address for Wikitribune:
18FXM5GxSAPtEHK5cXtZhW957vwxReg5sJ
Normally I think around 50% of contributions will go to journalist salaries with the rest going to tech and other overhead. But because I'm quite keen on bitcoin as an example community, I'm pledging that I'll use 100% of contributions that arrive at that address to hire high quality neutral reporters for the bitcoin/blockchain beat.
Wikitribune is a brand new thing from me, not affiliated with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia foundation.
If you've read this far, please pass word to others.

Wikimedia Foundation - Lobbying (started 2013.05.23)

I have recently followed up with the Wikimedia Foundation about their consideration to accept bitcoin donations.
In closing I wrote, "I strongly believe that it is only a matter of time, so I will be withholding my donation this FY until I am able to donate to the Wikimedia Foundation with bitcoin. I pledge 10BTC"
I also wrote a little about companies that have started accepting bitcoin since I last wrote them in February and the benefits those companies are now seeing.
To be clear, my motive for giving away 10BTC is purely selfish. I mine, so I have an implicit incentive to increase bitcoin adoption across the internet. A clever byproduct of my selfishness will also greatly benefit the Wikimedia Foundation and it's potential donators around the world.
So, if any of you would like to pledge an amount in BTC to the Wikimedia Foundation once they officially accept bitcoin, please leave a comment with the amount. I'll tally the results and leave it here.
Pledged so far: 23BTC

Monero Moon Prize

Announcing the Monero Moon Prize!

I pledge 10,000 Monero to the winner of a competition that begins right now. I will award the prize for completing a task which is very difficult, but not impossible.
The prize of 10,000 Monero will be awarded to the first team or individual to operate a 3D printer on the moon. This 3D printer must use lunar soil as its raw print material and demonstrate that it can reliably produce custom mechanical components.
I have created a set of rules for the competition but I welcome feedback on the details. My desire is that following the competition, the winning team is able to continue to operate the 3D printer on the Moon’s surface and to indefinitely produce parts from lunar soil and sunlight.

The Competition

  1. Safely deliver a payload to the surface of the Moon.
  2. Deploy 3D printer and some method of gathering soil for its continued operation.
  3. Print a series of 3 test parts from lunar soil using an additive manufacturing technique which does not rely on external binding agents from Earth. The printer cannot rely on supplies from Earth for its continued manufacture of parts.
  4. Minor manipulation and/or assembly of parts will be required.
  5. The build volume of the printer must be at least 150x150x150mm with dimensional tolerances to within 0.2mm of specifications. (Note: this level of performance is comparable to mid-priced 3D printers currently available in the home market)
  6. The ultimate tensile strength of the parts must be greater than 10 MPa in any direction (about 1/3 that of common glass).
  7. The winning team must meet these objectives on or before December 19, 2022; or 50 years since man last stepped foot on the Moon. We as a species must not go 50 years before taking our next step towards the Moon’s development.

Feasibility

Exponential Increase in Monero’s Value

The value of cryptocurrencies increases exponentially with adoption. A prize purse of 10,000 Monero is currently worth about $120,000. This meager amount is unlikely to incentivize a lunar mission, considering it costs roughly $15 million to launch a 10-kg payload to the Moon [1]. However, if the market adoption of Monero becomes similar to what Bitcoin enjoys today, then the 10,000 Monero prize purse would be roughly a hundred times more valuable (~$12 million) and enough to recoup the majority of launch expenses.
The size of the prize could also increase through donations or pledges made by additional backers. Any team in the competition could offset their own costs by pursuing corporate sponsorships or pairing their entry for the Monero Moon Prize with another competition like the Google Lunar XPRIZE, where a team must have a robot move 500 m on the Moon’s surface[2]. There are many possibilities for adding incentives to this competition, this is simply a first step.

What is Lunar Soil Made Of?

Glass and metal, mostly[3,4]. Aluminum, titanium, tungsten, and iron. Volatiles like ice and many useful trace elements[5,6,7]. Most soil particles are very fine with sharp angles, turned to powder through billions of years of meteoric impact. Older, more weathered particles have small bits of non-oxidized iron on their surface and imbedded within, making them efficiently heated with microwaves [8,9] and levitate in magnetic fields[10].

What Can Lunar Soil be Made Into?

Just about any solid object you can think of. Researchers have turned lunar soil simulant into gears, bolts, bricks, and bunkers[11,12,13,14,15]. They do this by selectively melting the soil in a desired shape and then cooling it until it hardens. Possible heat sources include lasers, microwaves, and concentrated solar, to name a few.
Many technologies in use by DIY maker communities and additive manufacturers can be extended with little modification to the lunar environment. Candidate technologies include selective sintering and fused deposition modeling. In selective sintering, a laser or other heat source is directed at a bed of powder which is partially melted and allowed to re-harden. Here’s a demonstration of how simple the process can be[16,17].
Fused deposition modeling is a type of 3D printing that you are probably most familiar with. Some material, typically plastic, is heated until it can be extruded out of a small nozzle. This extruded material is used to draw a 2D image on a flat surface. The height of the nozzle is then raised and another 2D image is drawn on top of the old. This process continues through many layers until a laminated 3D shape emerges. This technology was recently applied where small beads of optical glass acted as the raw print material[18], a substance not too different from lunar soil[19,20,21].
We can see from these examples that there are at least a few techniques for printing reliable parts from Moon dust. All major technical hurdles have been passed, now it’s just a matter of application-specific design.

Why a prize?

From the Orteig Prize sending aircraft across the Atlantic, to the Ansari XPRIZE sending private manned spacecraft to space, to the ongoing Google Lunar XPRIZE where teams are asked to drive a rover 500 m on the Moon, incentive competitions have simply been shown to work. Prizes are an effective way of directing the efforts of others towards a unified goal with potentially universal utility. I do not care who takes the first step in the extraterrestrial manufacturing revolution, just as long as someone takes it.
Prizes are an excellent investment. The prize backers only spend money if the competition garners a favorable result. The teams are compelled to initially spend their own resources to investigate several parallel designs. Incentive competitions have historically seen teams spend a combined $16 for every $1 used to fund the prize[22,23]; this represents a remarkable 16:1 return on your investment in terms of total R&D!
A competition also adds extraneous benefits. Humans tend to be thrilled by competition. They love the challenge, the race against another pack of humans. A need emerges to quickly find a solution and win at all costs.
Good solutions to the most difficult problems have been found under these conditions and frequently within shortened timeframes. We as a species need the ability to extract material resources from extraterrestrial sources as quickly as possible. I believe an incentive competition is a fast, inexpensive, and exciting way for us all to realize that goal.

Who Am I?

I wish to remain anonymous and feel lucky that this right is afforded to me by Monero. I hold a higher degree in a field related to this competition and would be inclined towards continued technical discussions on these topics.
I will send the pledged funds to a multisig wallet held in escrow once that becomes a possibility, but reserve the right to withdraw my funds from the competition before the stated deadline if it appears that no reasonable effort is being made by any team to win the prize.

Addendum: The Philosophical Rant (It’s a long one…)

Things could be so much different than they are. As a species, we have arrived in our current state through a series of steps so complex that the thing we call reality might as well be an arbitrary selection from the possibilities of what could be.
In this reality, our reality, humans have made a massive misstep that has put our society and our species at risk. This glaring bit of poor judgment is ongoing, yet no action is being taken to resolve the situation.
No machines are being built outside of Earth’s orbit.
Even though we are a space faring species, we have no plans for gathering resources from outside of Earth or for building the extraterrestrial infrastructure that is necessary to take humans to other planets and beyond. We are not amassing the arsenal necessary to ward off extinction from asteroid impacts nor are we building the tools we need to fight runaway global warming through sunshades or the like.
We could be building things, lots of things, outside of Earth’s gravity and be permanently expanding our reach into the Cosmos. We can do all of this with existing technology – low tech by today’s standards – the only requirement is a slight shift of human priority.
I want to try in my own way to fill this gap. I want our reality to be different than it is and I think I know how to do that.
We must encourage the tinkerers and the builders to venture into space. And not just be there and exist in space, but to play in it, interact with it. A compelling challenge like the one that I have outlined would bring adventurers, those wary of traditional ways of doing things who take bold steps into new territory. I want to find the people in this world who want to dip their (virtual) hands into the Moon’s soil and pull out an object born from their imagination.
Following the competition, the winning team will have the ability to make parts indefinitely on the surface of the Moon using soil and sunlight. These parts could be assembled to form the bodies of robots, most notably those of additional printers; containers for material storage; energy collection apparatuses; and a host of other applications, with each addition bringing even greater capabilities for extracting resources and building upon the lunar surface.
Proper preparation could greatly extend the reach of this first lunar base to encourage it to grow organically from resources collected on the Moon. The winning team could build a large collection of printers and robots by sending just a few extra electronics, motors, and Mylar sheets for solar collection. This hardware could be installed into the bodies of printers and robots, all made on the Moon. The added costs of launching a slightly heavier payload would be minimal compared to the potential returns that you could receive from increased operational capability on the Moon.
The creative limits of the winning team will be pushed to find new ways of harnessing the few resources they started with. The lunar soil contains a range of extremely useful materials such as aluminum, iron, copper, titanium, and magnesium; all of which are easily extractable for use in specialized mechanical or electrical components. Small amounts of water can be liberated from the soil as it is melted. This water could be collected and used to drive steam engines as a feasible first step towards low-tech locomotion on the Moon. Simple heating elements could be produced from parabolic solar collectors improvised from Mylar sheets applied to the surface of troughs dug into the soil.
Continued support from Earth via rocket bound payloads could accelerate efforts of expanding upon the efforts of the winning team or their model could be repeated elsewhere on the Moon. From one printer comes many. Each new printer will build redundancy into the system and expand the infrastructure required for extraterrestrial manufacturing. From each new robot comes more soil and food for the growing manufacturing base. With proper preparation, this process can continue indefinitely.

tldr; Let's take Monero to the Moon and then let it return the favor.

On the Separation of Assets – The Financial Cost of the BSA/LDS Split

This is a follow up report on a report made on May 10, 2018 entitled “A Mormon Divorce – The Ending of a Boy Scout Era by the Numbers”.
“Love is grand; divorce is a hundred grand." ~ Shinichi Suzuki
Overview (tl;dr): On paper, neither the BSA nor the LDS Church should walk away from this split without losing substantial financial assets on both sides; however, further analysis suggests both entities have sufficient war-chests to remain in a strong financial position post-separation:
  • The BSA gets the better part of this deal depending on a number of factors, not least of which includes a surprising increase in membership dues collected post-separation and first dibs to all assets belonging to the dissolved Utah councils – an estimated $50,619,729 depending on how things are actually split up between the BSA and LDS. The BSA will lose out on $220,116/yr in National Service Fees if the three councils dissolve, and continues to struggle in its 10 year decline in magazine sales. Overall contributions and BSA equipment/uniform sales show solid gains, and this combine with total assets of $1,471,984,000 in 2016 leaves the BSA in a strong position to move forward in its mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
  • The LDS leave behind an estimated $50,619,729 in Boy Scout camps, buildings, and other assets to the BSA in just the act of dissolving three of the five existing Utah BSA Councils. This figure does not take into account the amount of funds the LDS Church as a whole and Mormon families individually have invested in other Local BSA Councils across the nation. This figure also does not take into account the untold tens of millions of dollars it will cost the LDS to replicate youth organization on the same level as the BSA. With this said, the LDS Church collects $8 Billion in tithing each year – $50 million lost plus another $50 million or more invested in creating a new youth organization is a drop in the bucket for the LDS Church and more than worth the expense to create a program better suited to the LDS Church’s international missionary needs.
How is the BSA National Organization Funded?
Funds to support the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America come from registration fees, local council service fees, investment income, Scouting and Boys’ Life magazines, sale of uniforms and equipment, and contributions from individuals. These monies help to deliver the program of the BSA (through four regional service centers and more than 300 local councils) to chartered organizations that use the Scouting program to meet the needs of their youth.
Lets break down each of these funding sources:
Registration Fees
On paper, this is the scariest loss of funding for the BSA National Organization. The BSA membership fee as of Dec. 1, 2017 was $33 a year for both youth AND adults.
With 470,000 Mormon youth exiting the BSA in 2019-2020, the BSA National Organization is looking at losing $15,510,000/yr in membership dues – essentially eclipsing the LDS $50 million loss in just four years.
However, this $15 million figure is misleading for three reasons. (1) It doesn’t account for registered Mormon adults in each Troop who also pay the $33 membership fee; (2) As covered in depth in a prior article and detailed further below, LDS Troops receive a discounted rate on their membership dues; (3) The membership fee was RAISED from $24/scout in 2014 to $33/scout in 2017 by the BSA National Organization in response to an anticipated departure by the LDS Church.
So let’s look at these calculations again in 2014 to 2019 terms:
2014
= ($24 Membership Fee)x(2,419,000 Mormon and non-Mormon Scouts) = $58,056,000 per year in Membership Fees
2019
= ($33 Membership Fee)x(1,871,000 non-Mormon Scouts) = $61,743,000.00 per year in Membership Fees
In the worst case scenario, where (1) 470,000 Mormon scouts all leave at once, (2) the BSA does not add or lose any other non-Mormon scouts (girls, LGBT, or otherwise) to its ranks, and (3) Mormon scouts paid the same dues as everyone else, the BSA still makes $3,687,000 MORE revenue without LDS scouts in its ranks than the organization made with LDS scouts.
However, we know not all 470,000 LDS scouts are leaving at once as some will stick around for a year or more to complete their Eagle Scout Award. We also know LDS scouts do not paid the same dues as everyone, as show by the BSA's own 2014 Financial Statement:
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), consisting of 280 local councils, continued to deliver an exciting and valuable program to young people in 2014, with approximately 2,419,000 youth members and Explorers registered in individual programs. Approximately 981,000 registered adult leaders provide support to these youth.
Fees decreased in 2014 by $9,934 with the absence of the 2013 National Scout Jamboree fees totaling $32,784. This is offset by a membership fee increase effective January 1, 2014, which led to increased membership revenues despite a decline in membership.
The 2014 Financial Statement reports Revenue generated from Registration (Membership) Fee was $62,732,000 in 2014 with 2,419,000 youth and 981,000 adults.
($24 Membership Fee per youth/adult)x(3,400,000 youths and adults) = $81,600,000
This is $18,868,000 more than revenues reported by the BSA's 2014 Financial Statement - there are approximately 786,167 youths/adults ($18,868,000/$24 Membership Fee) missing from the 2014 Financial Statement. As the Utah BSA Councils stated to the Salt Lake Tribune:
The national BSA normally charges a $24 registration fee for each Scout and adult leader per year. However, a 2015 statement from the three BSA councils in Utah said those fees "are negotiated between the national BSA and the LDS Church. All registration fees are retained at the national BSA level."
Ironically enough, depending on how large a discount on membership fee LDS scouts get, the BSA National Organization may be earning way more revenue from its membership fees with the exit of the LDS and the addition of young women and the LGBT community into its ranks.
Local Council Service Fees
This fee is two parts paid on a yearly basis by each of the 280 Local BSA Councils across the nation.
The first is a fixed charter fee of $1,000 – this fee can be waived if the Local BSA Council turns in its Renewal Application before Mar. 1 of each year.
The second is the National Service Fee. The final amount of this fee is based upon data extracted from the council’s general ledger, and using the following formula:
(1) 2015 professional salaries (account No. 7002) for all funds (all funds being defined as Operating, Capital, and Endowment)
(2) 2015 office salaries (account No. 7003) for all funds (all funds being defined as Operating, Capital, and Endowment)
(3) Calculate the qualifying salaries for use in determining the 2017 national service fee (sum of figures 1 and 2 above)
(4) The council’s national service fee for 2017 is 3.5 percent of the qualifying salaries above* (multiply figure 3 above by .035)
*For those councils that will be charged a national service fee of $40,000 or greater for the year 2016, their fee will increase at the same rate of qualifying salary growth from 2014 to 2015, not to exceed 10 percent.
Examples: (1) If the council’s 2016 national service fee will be $48,783 and the qualifying salaries recorded in accounts 7002 and 7003 increased by 6.2 percent from 2014 to 2015, then the council’s national service fee for 2017 would also increase by 6.2 percent, or be $51,808.
(2) If the council’s 2016 national service fee will be $48,783 and the qualifying salaries recorded in accounts 7002 and 7003 were the same or decreased, the council agrees to and will be invoiced a national service fee of $48,783 for 2017.
The National Service Fee is pegged to the professional and office salaries of those employed in the BSA Local Council – changes in the number of scouts a local council has will not impact the National Service Fee assessed. Hence, across the nation, only Local BSA Councils at risk for closing because they do not serve enough scouts will be impacted.
Currently, only three BSA Councils are anticipated to be at risk of closing:
The BSA National Organization is likely to lose the following yearly revenue generated by the National Service Fee for these three Councils should they be dissolved:
  • GSL = $57,578
  • UNP = $89,166
  • TT = Unknown; Estimated to be average of GSL and UNP -> $73,372
In a worst case scenario, should all three Utah Councils go under, the BSA will lose at most $220,116/yr in National Service Fees due to the LDS split. In 2016, the BSA made $5,994,000 from interest and dividends alone on its investments - $220,116/yr is an easily absorbable loss.
Investment Income
In short, investments are affected by market conditions – not by the internal affairs of a single non-profit. Regardless, a short summary of the BSA’s investments:
Endowment Total
Balance Dec 21, 2015 $250,233,000
Investment return: -
Interest and Dividends $5,994,000
U Gains $20,599,000
Investment Manager Fee ($910,000)
Net investment return $25,683,000
Scouting and Boys’ Life magazines
The BSA National Organization’s flagship magazine is actually one area the BSA could really feel the hurt – nearly ever year Financial Statements were kept, the magazine’s revenue declined until hitting negative in both 2015 and 2016.
While the LDS/BSA split will certainly not help this situation, the BSA magazine has been declining in revenue for the last decade. Clearly the BSA needs to consider either scrapping the magazine entirely or moving to more cost effective options like sending out electronic subscriptions over email to save on printing costs.
Year Magazine Revenue
2005 $2,786,000
2006 $2,742,000
2007 $3,217,000
2008 $2,025,000
2009 $1,928,000
2010 $2,099,000
2011 $957,000
2012 $1,054,000
2013 $903,000
2014 $185,000
2015 ($753,000)
2016 ($2,651,000)
In short, the BSA magazine was an issue before the LDS/BSA split and will continue to be an issue long after the split. Again though, the BSA can temporarily cover this loss in revenue with gains in other areas of the organization – such as $5,994,000 interest gains on investments.
Sale of uniforms and equipment
Unlike the BSA flagship magazine, uniform and trading post sales have nearly tripled from 2005 to 2016, benefiting from a new wave of low overhead online shopping. While it remains to be seen how these sales might be impacted by the loss of 470,000 scouts, the addition of new demographics into the Scouts program means new uniforms and new equipment.
Year Trading Post Sales Revenue
2005 $5,953,000
2006 $4,278,000
2007 $4,108,000
2008 $6,559,000
2009 $4,835,000
2010 $7,702,000
2011 $12,246,000
2012 $8,232,000
2013 $10,495,000
2014 $10,773,000
2015 $14,892,000
2016 $13,367,000
Even in the most extreme situation where 20% loss of membership = 20% loss of Uniform and Equipment revenue, a 20% reduction in 2016 Sales means ($$13,367,000) - ($13,367,000)(0.20) = $10,693,600.00 in 2019 Sales Revenue -> Still better than almost every year up to 2014.
Contributions from Individuals
Individual contributions rose considerably in the 11 years spanning from 2005 to 2016, but at an unpredictable rate. The BSA will certainly be missing out on contributions given by LDS families, but the BSA has such a large endowment ($218,224,000 in invested assets in 2016) that the organization will be able smooth out any transition period between the LDS leaving and new demographics entering.
Year Contributions and Bequests
2005 $8,377,000
2006 $5,191,000
2007 $10,659,000
2008 $15,255,000
2009 $54,431,000
2010 $65,405,000
2011 $61,041,000
2012 $27,030,000
2013 $37,457,000
2014 $54,495,000
2015 $28,191,000
2016 $33,535,000

Ms. Peggy Stack and Mr. Lee Davison from The Salt Lake Tribune wrote an interesting article back in August on a topic generating much discussion with the Boy Scouts and Latter-Day Saints Wards – how badly will the BSA be hit financially for losing approximately 20% of its members in 2020 when the LDS Church officially parts ways with the Boy Scouts? In short, the Ms. Stack and Mr. Davison come to the conclusion any split will…
…have dire financial consequences for BSA. The LDS Church is far and away the nation's largest Scouting sponsor, serving 437,160 boys in 37,933 troops.
In 2013, more than a third (37 percent) of troops were LDS sponsored, accounting for 18 percent of the BSA's 2.4 million total membership (Mormon troops, while more numerous, tend to be smaller in size).
An LDS Church withdrawal also could ruin the three Scout councils in Utah, which say between 96 percent and 99 percent of their members are in Mormon units.
In Utah, the three councils say they have a combined 320,000 registered Scouts and adult leaders, the vast majority of whom are Mormon. Losing them could bring big financial blows to Scouting.
For example, the national BSA normally charges a $24 registration fee for each Scout and adult leader per year. The fee just for Mormon youths would cost $10.5 million a year. However, a statement from the Utah councils says those fees "are negotiated between the national BSA and the LDS Church. All registration fees are retained at the national BSA level."
In Utah, the Orem-based Utah National Parks Council says 99 percent of its Scouts are in LDS units. The Salt Lake City-based Great Salt Lake Council says 98 percent of its Scouts are. And the Ogden-based Trapper Trails Council says 96 percent of its youths are in Mormon-sponsored units.
Each year, the LDS Church supports a "Friends of Scouting" drive to ask members for donations to boost the local Scout councils — money which could disappear if the faith leaves. The Utah National Parks Council says the Friends of Scouting push provides 43 percent of its budget; the Trapper Trails Council says it generates 36 percent; and the Great Salt Lake Council receives 34 percent of its money from the effort. "The large majority of Friends of Scouting funds come from LDS units," according to the joint statement from the councils.
Questions also arise about what may happen to the many Scout camps in Utah if the LDS Church exits the organization.
In response to Salt Lake Tribune questions, the local councils wrote, "All camp properties are either owned by the council or are leased properties from the Forest Service. Each council is a 501(c)3 corporation separate from the Boy Scouts of America or any other council. The properties would continue to serve Scouting and the needs of religious and other youth groups in our communities."
There is a lot to unpack in this article. We have already covered facts concerning BSA's suprsingly solid financial footing despite loosing 20% of its membership. Let’s next focus on what Local BSA Councils are and what happens when Local BSA Councils dissolve.
BSA Organization and Local BSA Councils in Utah
The Organization of the Boy Scouts of America is a topic that requires a post of its own (conveniently found here!). In short, the BSA is run by a National Executive Council that, among other functions; develops program; sets and maintains quality standards in training, leadership selection, unforming, registration records, literature development, and advancement requirements; and publishes Boys' Life and Scouting magazines.
The National Executive Council does not attempt to administer directly the more than 150,000 registered Boy Scout units (troops, packs, venturing crews, etc.). To achieve this, each year, the National Council issues a charter to an autonomous organization called a Local Council. The United States and its territories is divided into local councils. Local councils are usually not-for-profit private corporations registered within the State in which they are headquartered.
The State of Utah actually has five Local BSA Councils - not three - however, The Salt Lake Tribune can be forgiven for this slight accounting error because: (1) the Great Southwest Council (GSW) is headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and provides Scouting to 7,260 youth in northern New Mexico, northeast Arizona, Utah south of the Colorado River, and the Durango and Mesa Verde areas of Colorado; and (2) the Snake River Council (SN) serves a number of Scouts in Idaho, Nevada, and Utah.
There are three Utah based BSA Councils who are composed of between 96% - 99% Mormon youth and focus only on the State of Utah:
Of these five Local BSA Councils, only GSL, UNP, and TT are at risk of dissolving in 2020 once the Latter-Day Saints Church officially splits from the BSA. Both GSW and SN have enough geographic dispersment and diversity of membership to survive the split relatedly unscathed.
So what would happen if a Local BSA council suddenly dissolved?
Well fortunately the Boy Scouts of America have been around for nearly 120 years as a national youth organization, and in this time plenty of Local BSA Councils have come and gone. Hence, the BSA National Executive Council has had plenty of time to develop and enact procedures for what happens to Local BSA Councils when they dissolve:
BSA Rules and Regulations; III. Local Councils
Council or Unit Assets Upon Dissolution
Consistent with the Bylaws, in the event of the dissolution of a council or the revocation or lapse of its charter, the Executive Committee may, at its option, authorize the National Council to assume charge of the affairs of the council and continue operation pending reorganization or reestablishment of the council or wind up the business of the council. All funds and property in the possession or control of such council must be applied to the payment of the council’s obligations. Any surplus funds or property may thereafter be administered as deemed to be in the best interests of Scouting.
In the event of the dissolution of a unit or the revocation or lapse of its charter, unit funds and assets must be used to first satisfy any outstanding unit obligations. Any remaining assets obtained with funds raised in the name of Scouting must be redeployed for Scouting use in the local area. Any assets obtained with funds from the chartered organization or parents of registered members may be redeployed as agreed upon by the chartered organization and local council.
Any property or funds acquired by the National Council upon the dissolution of a Scouting unit or local council will be administered so as to make effective, as far as possible, the intentions and wishes of the donors.
Real Estate
Except as hereafter provided with respect to incorporated local councils, the title to all real estate acquired for a unit or local council must be vested in a bank or trust company, in trust for the use of the unit or local council in accordance with the wishes of the donor with the provision that if such property cannot be utilized in such a manner, and title does not revert to the donor, that title or beneficial use of the property must nonetheless be for the benefit of Scouting in the local area.
Any incorporated local council may hold title to real property in its own name provided that in the event of the dissolution of the unit or council or the revocation or lapse of its charter said trustee or trustees will, after satisfying any claims against such unit or council to which such real estate may be subject, convey said property or, if sold, pay the net proceeds of such sale to the Boy Scouts of America, which may hold or use said property or funds for the benefit of Scouting in such locality or elsewhere if there is not suitable opportunity to use said property or funds in such locality. Any incorporated local council holding title to real property in its own name must ensure that its certificate or articles of incorporation expressly provide for the conveyance of such property or the net proceeds from the sale thereof to the Boy Scouts of America in the event of the dissolution of the local council or the revocation or lapse of its charter in a manner consistent with this provision.
Restricted Funds
Restricted funds received by a unit or local council must in all cases be held (a) in trust by either a corporate trustee for a bank or trust company, the National Boy Scouts of America Foundation, or the Boy Scouts of America Endowment Master Trust; or (b) in the Boy Scouts of America Commingled Endowment Fund LP for the use of the unit or the local council, in accordance with the wishes of the donors, with the provision in the statement of the conditions governing the administering of the funds that in the event of the dissolution of the unit or council or revocation or lapse of its charter said funds will, after any claims against said funds are satisfied, be turned over to the Boy Scouts of America for use by the Boy Scouts of America for the benefit of Scouting in such locality and for the specific purposes for which the fund was granted. If there is no suitable opportunity for the use of said funds in such locality, they may be used elsewhere.
This is A LOT to unpack, but here are the highlights;
Registration
  • Every Local BSA Council across the US is registered as a separate 501(c)3 corporation separate from the Boy Scouts of America or any other council. Every Council owns assets and liabilities separate from the BSA parent organization.
  • However (and this is very important), every Local BSA Council, including all five Councils in the State of Utah, are legally bound to the rules and provisions as laid out by the BSA Executive National Committee. These rules clearly spell out the actions that will be taken once a Council is dissolved, including the BSA’s right to all of the Council’s property and most of the Council’s assets.
Steps Taken Upon Utah Council Dissolution
  • (1) National Committee will step in and take control of all Utah Local BSA Councils under threat of dissolution. The Committee will do everything in its power to keep the Local Councils alive including moving remaining scouts to other troops or other councils in extreme cases. You can already see this process starting with the GSL Council here.
  • (2) If the Local BSA Council cannot be saved, then the Councils will be permanently shuttered. Now here is where things get really interesting – all Local BSA Council assets and liabilities are turned over to the BSA Executive Council. These assets are first used to pay off all outstanding debt carried by the Local BSA Council. The remaining assets “raised in the name of Scouting” will be kept by the BSA Executive Council, while assets “obtained with funds from the chartered organization or parents of registered members may be redeployed as agreed upon by the chartered organization and local council.”
  • Real Estate - Any buildings and land owned outright by Local BSA Councils is first used to pay off outstanding liabilities. After this, the buildings and land is turned over to the BSA Executive Committee to be given over to other BSA Local Councils. If no other Councils can make use of the property or land, the real estate is sold off and the funds are kept by the BSA to deploy to other Local Councils across the nation. This will be important when we examine the Financial statements of Utah Local BSA Councils next.
So now that we have an idea of the process each Local BSA Council must go through if it dissolves, lets look at what assets and liabilities two Utah BSA Councils have which, at least on paper, will be turned over to the BSA:

What do these numbers mean?
In 2020, approximately 72,844 Mormon scouts (98% of the GSL) will walk away from the GSL leaving approximately 1,487 non-Mormon scouts behind. The BSA National Executive Committee will take over the GSL, and take control of $29,118,969 in assets and $5,983,311 in liabilities that the Latter-Day Saints Church walks away from. Lets look at some interesting things the LDS Church is leaving behind (at least initially and according to the BSA Bylaws) to the Boy Scouts:
  • $84,365 Monetary Pledges from mostly Mormon Scout Families in 2016
  • $17,084,440 in Land, Buildings, and Leaseholds in 2016; This figure includes construction costs for the Thomas S. Monson Lodge which amounted to $6,229,000. It is likely the lodge will retain its name when it is initially turned over to the BSA as seen in past cases of councils dissolving. It also includes 564.82 acres purchase the on the East Fork of the Bear River from the State of Utah Schools and Institutions Trust Lands Administration (“SITLA”), as well as the Federal lease ownership of Camp Steiner. Additionally, Hinckley Scout Ranch and Millcreek Canyon Camps will be initially retained by the BSA.
  • The following Money Market Accounts, Treasury Notes, Corporate Bonds, and Real Estate Trusts:
INVESTMENTS 2016 USD AMOUNT
Money Mkt Accounts $900,822
Fixes Income Securities: -
U.S. Treasury Notes $117,964
Corporate Bonds $50,326
Mortgage Backed Gov Sec $287,747
Mutual Funds: -
Domestic $735,224
International $696,577
Equities: -
Domestic $1,099,311
International $628,107
Real Estate Investment Trusts $478,477
Alternative Investments $576,767
TOTAL $5,571,352
It goes without saying this level of professional investment is really really unique to find in a Local BSA Council. I honestly have never seen anything like this – though I do come from a poor and tiny Local BSA Council.
On a side note, “Alternative Investments” is accounting slang for things like Bitcoin – so it is pretty humorous to think there is a remote possibility that scouting in Utah could be funded in part by Bitcoin.
  • The following land restrictions:
“The Council owns two parcels of land, which have permanent restrictions on them. The Council’s Headquarters is on a piece of land that was given to the Council as long as it is used as the Scout Headquarters. The property’s restriction was removed in 2016 through the Council’s payment of $1,590,000 to the holder of the restrictions. The other restricted property is the Bear Lake Camp in Rich County, Utah, which represents approximately 289 acres that was given to the Council to use strictly as a Boy Scout Camp.”
  • The purchase of the Council Headquarters land in 2016 to remove the Boy Scout restriction is an interesting move. This move was made around the same time the LDS Church began to take active measures to claw back as much as it could from Local BSA Councils around the US before announcing a split in 2018. No matter what happens with this split, the LDS will lose Bear Lake Camp to the BSA.
Summary of GSL Council Dispersal of Assets and Liabilities
$29 million in assets is at stake for both the BSA and the LDS in the termination of just one BSA Council. It is clear from a legal standpoint all assets and liabilities will be initially turned over to the BSA in an attempt to salvage the GSL Council. It is also clear that should these efforts fail, approx. $6 million in assets will be sold off to cover the existing debt. From this point forward, the BSA has legal claim to all the property holdings of the GSL Council and can choose to retain this property or sell some, all, or parts of these properties to the LDS or other organizations. The only certainty from a real estate perspective is that the BSA will retain ownership of Bear Lake Camp due to deed restrictions as well as the Federal lease for Camp Steiner. What will happen to other non-real estate assets is less clear, but the language of the BSA bylaws asserts the BSA will make a determination which assets to keep and which to return or sell back to the LDS.
UTAH NATIONAL PARKS COUNCIL - 2014
In the interest of type space, time, and because Hinton & Burdick are awful awful people for inverting their Financial Statement, I will not be inserting this F/S into the post. I left the link above to the UNP Financial Statement if anyone wants to go hog wild. [2014 is the newest F/S posted]
Big take aways after reviewing the 2014 UNP Financial Statement:
  • Total Assets in 2014: $17,275,633; Total Liabilities: $734,307
  • $2,941,642 invested in Securities and REIT
  • $244,838 in total contributions
  • $10,731,547 in Land, Buildings, and Equipment
  • $124,500 in Scout Camp land is permanently earmarked for the BSA
  • $3,241,341 in total endowments
There isn’t really much more that can be said for the UNP that wasn’t already covered by our discussion of GSL. In short, the BSA will initially retain all assets and liabilities of the UNP, and should the UNP resolve, $734,307 in assets will be liquidated to cover existing debt. The remaining $10,731,547 is legally owned by the BSA with some, part, or all of these holdings being either retained or sold off the LDS or other third party interests. Part of the remaining $5,809,779 will either be retained by the BSA as it was raised for the purpose of scouting, while an unknown portion will be returned to the LDS Church.
Unfortunately after an exhaustive search online, no Financial Statements for TT could be found.
Roughly Estimating the Final Cost to the LDS from the BSA Split
So how much does the Latter-Day Saints Church lose by parting ways with the Boy Scouts? Well a rough estimation can be made with the following assumptions in mind:
  • (1) Assuming the LDS Church will either lose control of all land held by the BSA Councils or will have to buy the land back; [In reality some land will be gifted or donated back to the Church by the BSA]. Either way, all assets found in the “Land, Buildings, and Equipment” ledger of both Financial Sheets will be given to the BSA. GSL = $17,084,440 [Real-Estate (RE)]; UNP = $10,731,547 [RE]
  • (2) Assuming all liabilities are paid off by non-real estate assets dollar for dollar; [In reality, there will be a cost to manipulating assets and debts in a short term]. **GSL = $6,051,218 [Total Assets (TA) - Liabilities (L) - RE]; UNP = $5,809,779 [TA – L – RE]
  • (3) Assuming remaining assets are equally split between BSA and the LDS Church; [In reality, it is unknown how much of the remaining assets the BSA will retain after covering debt and securing real estate]. **GSL = $3,025,609 [$6,051,218 / 2]; UNP = $2,904,890 [$5,809,779 / 2]
  • This puts total LDS losses from the GSL ($20,110,049) and UNP ($13,363,437) at $33,746,49.
  • It is not unreasonable to assume TT will exact similar loses on the LDS Church as did GSL and UNP despite having no available Financial Statement. For this reason, the average of GSL and UNP was taken as the losses exacted by TT. Hence, TT = $16, 873,243 [$33,746,49 / 2].
It is from these assumptions we can arrive at a ball park figure of the LDS Church surrendering $50,619,728 in assets to the BSA in just the dissolution of three Utah BSA Councils.
This figure does not account for the substantial investment the LDS Church has put into other BSA Councils across the US, or the invest Mormon families have made in paying for Scouting uniforms, campouts, membership fees, and other costs. This figure also does not take into account the $50 million or more it will take to replicate a youth organization on the same scale as the Boy Scouts.
With this said, Bloomberg reports the Mormon Church collects $8 Billion a year in tithing alone from its wards around the world - $50 million lost plus another $50 million or more invested in creating a new youth organization is a drop in the bucket for the LDS Church and more than worth the expense to create a program better suited to the LDS Church’s international missionary needs.
